Australian Oak engineered hardwood flooring from Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) is the combination of a beautiful hardwood floor, a hard-wearing coating, and a stable substrate. The resulting product is an attractive floor with increased stability and speedy installation. Australian Oak hardwood flooring is made from a combination of regrowth and plantation hardwoods. The wear layer on top is a regrowth hardwood species which is PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) certified and grown in Australia.
Construction
The hardwood ply substrate is a mix of plantation hardwood species, glued to the wear layer using a method known as ‘balanced construction’. Using a hardwood ply (instead of an MDF or pine makeup) not only increases the density and reduces the risk of indentation but it also ensures that no one layer is dominant. The cross-laminated orientation makes the boards work together to minimize the risk of expansion and contraction.
Back sawn (or crown cut) grain is another benefit offered by the construction method. Crown cut grain is often more desirable in flooring applications due to the unique patterns created in the swirly grain. These are often highlighted in the staining process or brush finishing.
